Survey Skip Logic
Some survey questions only make sense if the person answered a previous question a certain way. This walkthrough shows you each case and lets you decide what happens.

How this works

We found 3 decision points across both surveys where a respondent's answer makes a follow-up question irrelevant.

For each one, you'll see the trigger question, which answer causes the skip, and the question(s) that would be affected. Then you pick one of three options.

Parent Survey
Decision 1 of 3
If a parent hasn't used messaging, should we ask about messaging issues?
Question 2 — The Trigger
Have you used the direct messaging feature in the NHA App?
Yes, I've sent or received messages
I've tried but couldn't get it to work
No, I didn't know it existed
No, I chose not to use it
Question 3 — Would Be Skipped
Have you experienced any of these issues with messaging?
Couldn't find how to send a message
Message appeared to send but the teacher didn't receive it
Messages are hard to read or scroll on my phone
I don't know if my message was read
I had to log in again to see messages
I sent a message but never received a reply
No issues
When a parent says they haven't used messaging, what should we show instead of Question 3?
Skip it entirely
Jump straight to Question 4 (School & Class Posts). The survey becomes 9 questions for these respondents.
Show information about messaging
Replace with a promotional slide: what messaging looks like, why it's useful, how to try it. Survey stays at 10 slides.
Replace with a different question
Swap in an alternate question that's relevant even if they haven't used messaging (e.g., "Why haven't you tried messaging?").
Parent Survey
Decision 2 of 3
If a parent gets notifications reliably, should we ask what caused missed ones?
Question 5 — The Trigger
Are you receiving notifications when something new arrives?
Yes, reliably
Sometimes — I miss some
Rarely or never
I don't know how to set up notifications
Question 6 — Would Be Skipped
If you've missed notifications, what do you think caused it?
Notifications aren't turned on for this app on my phone
I set them up but they still don't come through
Notifications arrive but they're delayed
I'm not sure
I haven't missed any
When a parent says notifications work fine, what should we show instead of Question 6?
Skip it entirely
Jump straight to Question 7 (notification preference). Survey becomes 9 questions for these respondents.
Show a tip about notification settings
Replace with helpful info: how to customize notification preferences, how to control what they get alerts for. A reward for having it set up.
Replace with a different question
Swap in an alternate question (e.g., "Which types of notifications are most useful to you?" or "Would you like more or fewer notifications?").
Staff Survey
Decision 3 of 3
If a staff member rarely messages parents, should we ask about responses and issues?
Question 1 — The Trigger
How often do you use the NHA App to message parents?
Daily or almost daily
A few times a week
A few times a month
Rarely or never
Question 2 — Would Be Skipped
When you send a message to a parent, do they typically respond?
Yes, most parents respond
Some do, some don't
Rarely — I'm not sure they're seeing my messages
I haven't sent messages through the app
Question 3 — Would Also Be Skipped
Have you experienced any of these issues with messaging?
Messages take too long to send or appear stuck
Can't tell if the parent received or read my message
Hard to find the right parent in the directory
Notification doesn't seem to reach the parent
Accidentally messaged the wrong person
No issues
When a staff member says they rarely message, what should we show instead of Questions 2 & 3?
Skip both entirely
Jump straight to Question 4 (Creating Posts). The survey becomes 8 questions for these respondents.
Show information promoting messaging
Replace both with 1-2 informational slides: what messaging looks like, why parents prefer it over email, success stories. Then continue to Question 4.
Replace with different questions
Swap in alternate questions (e.g., "What's the main reason you don't message through the app?" and "What would make you more likely to use messaging?").

All done!

Here's a summary of your decisions. Cenovio's team will implement these into the final surveys.
